Soon-to-be-former Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce conceded defeat to his opponent, Jerry Lewis, in yesterday’s unprecedented recall election to become the first sitting state Senate president to get booted from office in United States history.

As many of Pearce’s supporters — including Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio — discussed following his concession speech, Pearce may be down, but he might not be out.

Supporters yakked about Pearce potentially running for the seat from which he was booted next year. They also discussed his potentially running for a higher office.

“Knowing Russell, he’s not gonna go away and hide,” Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio tells New Times. “He may have other plans. If he does [run for office], no matter what he runs for, I’m gonna support him.”
