At 1 p.m. today, we should know whether Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio will run for governor, or if he will remain as sheriff.
We’re told that the sheriff won’t be holding a press conference to announce his decision, but rather he will issue a statement that will be released at 1 p.m. today.
Last week, ABC 15’s Josh Bernstein reported that Arpaio was ready to take the plunge and that all the necessary paperwork “has been filled out and is ready to file.”
In case you forgot, Bernstein is the same reporter who was ripped by his boss in an email, telling him he needed to more aggressively cover the sheriff.

Reports from other news outlets, like the Phoenix Business Journal, say that sources confirm that Arpaio will not run for governor, and that is what will be confirmed in his announcement this afternoon.
The Plum Line, a Washington Post blog, is saying the same thing.
The blog’s author, Greg Sargent, says that he asked a source close to Arpaio if the fact that the news is being announced in a press release, and not a press conference, indicated that Arpaio would not be running. The source told Sargent “that would be a smart reading of the game plan here.”
