Kevin Tyne, the governor’s long-time friend and adviser, is leaving his post as her chief of staff to take a job with the Republican Governors Association.
That, of course, is how the Governor’s Office is putting it. Another way to say it: Tyne got pushed out.
Tyne has been criticized recently for essentially not playing well with other members of Team Brewer, as well as members of the Legislature, which may have contributed to the nightmarish budget fiasco the state is still trying to deal with.
“It is with mixed emotions that I announce Mr. Tyne’s move,” Brewer says in a statement. “Kevin has been by my side as a loyal advisor, trusted confidant, and devoted friend for nearly 13 years. He has served me and the people of Arizona with honor, devotion, and dedication, and I will miss him dearly. I would, however like to congratulate him on an excellent opportunity to work with the RGA and look forward to continuing to work closely with him in his new role.”

Tyne’s replacement will be Eileen Klein, the now-former deputy chief of staff for finance and director of the Governor’s Office of Strategic Planning and Budgeting.
