Valley radio listeners today were spared the weeping lunacy that is Glenn Beck’s radio show, as KTAR is hosting a radiothon to raise money for autism in Beck’s timeslot.

Sorry, Teabaggers, you’ll have to get your sobbing, conspiracy theories elsewhere.

The radiothon, which KTAR calls Action for Autism, is raising money for the Southeast Autism Research and Resource Center.

This is the third year the station has hosted the event, which raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for SARRC each year.

$30,000

So far, this year’s radiothon has raised about $225,000 for autism research, $100,000 of which came from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Many Valley businesses, like the Jaburg and Wilk lawfirm and the Sanderson Ford Lincoln dealership, are participating in the event, and many are matching listener donations dollar for dollar.

Representatives from SARRC say about one in every 110 Arizonans are diagnosed with autism every year, a number that has increased tremendously since the early 1990s, when the diagnosis rate was about one in 10,000.
