The Arizona Game and Fish Department is offering a free, two-hour workshop next week on how to “find, stalk, call, judge, and harvest” black bears in Arizona.
The class is designed for hunters, but you can always just skip the “harvest” part if you spot one of these amazing mammals in the field. The class, taught by expert Brian Anthony, sounds interesting for anyone who wants to know the answer to the question: Is there a bear around here?
“Habitat is king. I’ll teach you what to look for, and how to determine if there are bears in the area,” says Anthony in a short promo for the event.

Your support strengthens our coverage.
We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If New Times matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.
Even (or especially) if you’re out hiking armed with nothing but a camera, that’s news you can use.
The class is Wedneday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Quail Room of the Department’s headquarters at 5000 West Carefree Highway.
