Didn’t President Obama tell us we were leaving Iraq?

Tell that to the troops in the Army’s 653rd Support Group.

The Valley-based unit said goodby to friends and family Sunday at a deployment ceremony in Mesa as they prepare to ship out to Iraq next month.

The unit is designated to “assist troops heading in and out of Iraq,” so perhaps it is an indication that troops on the ground will be “heading out” rather than “heading in.” If that’s the case, it still seems odd that in order to get soldiers out, we need to send more in.

The troops will now head to Fort Lewis, Washington, for combat readiness training before being deployed to Iraq.
