A guy wearing nothing but pink socks was seen running towards 35th Avenue near the Durango Jail yesterday. The problem with that — aside from the guy being naked — is he was an inmate at the jail who’d just scaled five razor-wire fences and his running naked through the jail parking lot was the first time detention officers noticed him.
As we pointed out yesterday, multiple fences aren’t just part of an obstacle course for inmates — part of their purpose is to give guards more time to respond if someone does make the bold decision to try and scale them.
In other words, if someone can get over one, there’s no reason he can’t get over five — a sixth fence probably wasn’t stopping this guy.
We contacted the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office to get an explanation as to how nobody noticed the inmate as he scaled five fences but nobody got back to us.

It seems monitoring the fences is fairly large part of a detention officer’s job but we want to know what you think: should guards at the jail have noticed a guy scaling five fences?
