It’s now officially official: the federal government is suing Arizona over SB 1070, the state’s controversial new immigration law.
In case you missed it, which seems nearly impossible, the federal government filed a lawsuit yesterday claiming the new statute violates the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause.
The feds claim immigration enforcement is the responsibility of the federal government and Arizona has no right trying to do Uncle Sam’s job.
Before the legal fun begins, though, the feds — as well as several other groups — have asked a judge to grant an injunction that would prevent the law from taking effect until its constitutionality can be determined.

Hearings are slated to begin on July 22 — just one week prior to the new law is set to go into effect on July 29.
