Hockey just got exciting again in the Valley.

The Phoenix Coyotes are now one game out of first place in the Pacific Conference after winning their sixth straight game last night — a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

Coyotes winger Taylor Pyatt was let go by the Canucks two summers ago. He wasn’t offered a new contract after three years with the team, so he signed with the Coyotes as a free agent. Pyatt scored two goals last night — including the game-winner — so, thankyaverymuch, Vancouver.

“You always want to play well against your old team,” Pyatt said after the game. “There’s always some extra motivation there, so to come out and get a couple goals definitely feels good.”

Pyatt’s first goal put the Coyotes up 2-0 early in the second period. Goals by Christian Ehrhoff and Tanner Glass tied the game for the Canucks before the period was over.

Pyatt wasn’t done, though. He struck again in the third period on a fluke goal — a shot by Keith Yandle that bounced off of Pyatt and under the arm of Vacouver goalie Roberto Luongo.

Scottie Upshall also had a goal for the Coyotes in the win, and goalie Illya Bryzgalov made 25 saves.

The Coyotes have a chance at a Western Canadian sweep tomorrow night when they face the Oilers in Edmonton. The Howlers beat the Oilers on Friday and have already defeated the Calgary Flames and the Canucks on their current road trip.
