Today in Found at the Border, a Phoenix man tried to cross the border into Mexico with almost $11,000 in his shoes.
It might sound like a cash-hiding method that would be obvious to the authorities, but that’s not quite the case.

It’s possible that the 22-year-old man — whose name hasn’t been released by Customs and Border Protection — had fewer than 60 bills in each shoe to make up $10,744 in U.S. currency.

Still, for an undisclosed reason, this particular Phoenix resident was selected for further inspection while in trying to get out through the Lukeville Port of Entry.
The money was seized, and it appears the man hasn’t been charged at this point, as CBP says he was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
