While they were electing Greg Stanton as their next mayor, Phoenix voters also returned Councilwoman Thelda Williams to her seat in District 1, and chose Daniel Valenzuela over Brenda Sperduti to represent them District 5.

Like Phoenix mayor-elect Greg Stanton, Williams beat her opponent Eric Frederick with a double-digit lead. She scored nearly 56 percent of the vote to Frederick’s 44 percent.

The race for the District 5 seat, which will be vacated by termed-out Councilman Claude Mattox, also saw similar election results.

Sperduti didn’t make the cut with her nearly 44 percent of the vote, losing the bid to Daniel Valenzuela, who almost made it to 57 percent of the vote.
