HOAs can be hell.
What other way can you describe a micromanaging quasi-governmental body that takes hundreds of dollars a year from you and then uses that money to harass you about where you park your car, about how you store your trash can, and about front-yard weeds that refuse to die and would likely survive a nuclear explosion.
Well, they do help some neighborhoods maintain their property value.

Phoenix’s Neighborhood Services Department and the Mulcahy Law Firm are offering a workshop to discuss homeowner associations from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, at Burton Barr Central Library, 1221 North Central Avenue.
Lawyers will explain how HOAs work, as well as the roles and responsibilities of the board of directors, members and managers. It’s a session for those who are interested in getting involved with their own HOA or those who are frustrated at the neighborhood “hall” monitors.
