Supporters of the pro-immigrant group Puente plan to make the 60-mile walk from Phoenix to Eloy in their latest stunt to protest deportations.
The National Day Laborer Organizing Network, which is behind the national “Not One More Deportation” project, is having a day of action on April 5 to demand the Obama administration stop all the deportations.

Puente plans to start the 60-mile hike at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement headquarters in Phoenix on April 2, and land at the Eloy Detention Center on April 5.

With each step, we shed light on the otherwise hidden deportation process and demonstrate that there is no such thing as “humane” separation of families, no matter what the President claims to be considering.
Around 2 million immigrants have been deported under Obama, the most that have occurred for any president. About two weeks ago, President Obama ordered a “review” of his administration’s deportation policies.
The march planned for next week is just the latest in a long line of demonstrations carried out by Puente, which played a huge role in SB 1070 protests, but has recently been protesting against the deportations.
Just earlier this month, several people camped out outside the Phoenix ICE office, and went on hunger strike, eventually leading to a few people being arrested.
