Scottsdale police say a man left his 1-year-old child in his car while he went to work at the Scottsdale Quarter.

Coincidentally, the Scottsdale Quarter is less than a mile from the shopping center where a 3-month-old boy died last month after his father allegedly went to work and forgot he’d left the boy in the backseat of his car.

The 1-year-old in this weekend’s case is in critical condition, according to a Scottsdale Police Department spokesman.

According to police, 28-year-old Brokale Lytte Marques went to work at or around the Scottsdale Quarter, near Scottsdale Road and the Greenway-Hayden Loop, around 9 a.m. on Saturday.

He couldn’t find a babysitter, so his plan was to leave the youngster in the vehicle, with the air conditioning running, Marques would later tell police.

Between 11 and 11:30 a.m., Marques went on his lunch break, and the child seemed to be fine, he said.

But when he checked on the child at 2 p.m., his boy was in a “lethargic state,” police say.

“The father began to drive and look for a hospital when he pulled into the mall area and flagged down security to call for medical help,” Scottsdale Police Officer David Pubins says.

The child was hospitalized in critical condition, and remained in critical condition yesterday, when Marques was booked into jail on charges of child abuse, child neglect, and endangerment.

Marques’ bond was set at $25,000.
