Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio sure knows when not to put out a press release.
Like when he’s going to be testifying in a forum easily accessible by the public about something he’d rather not be talking about.
Like right now.
Arpaio’s on the stand in a proceeding this morning at the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors’ Auditorium at 205 West Jefferson in downtown Phoenix. He’s testifying in the appeal case for one of his fired deputies — Joel Fox.

UPDATE: 10:30 a.m. Arpaio’s done testifying.
Fox, if you’ll recall, is the best buddy of Larry Black, who was one of Arpaio’s closest aides until Arpaio fired him for taking a bullet in what we affectionately call the SCA scandal. According to two investigations, (one by the state Attorney General’s office and another by Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu’s office), Black and Arpaio’s former chief deputy, Dave Hendershott, ran a scheme with Fox to secretly raise money before the 2008 election and spend it on a sleazy TV ad that targeted Arpaio’s former Democratic opponent, Dan Saban.
We’ve got to wrap up a few things before heading down, but feel free to go and watch if you’re in the area. It’s open to the public.
Fox’s hearings will run into March, and we plan to offer you the video when it’s released… so stay tuned.
