The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division sued the neighboring towns of Colorado City and Hildale yesterday, as the DoJ apparently thought it was inappropriate to have a child rapist running the show.
The DoJ filed suit alleging religious and housing discrimination, with much of the lawsuit bringing claims against the “Marshal’s Office” for policing on the basis of Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints law, instead of enforcing actual laws.
The feds say FLDS and Jeffs are still running Colorado City and Hildale to their fanatical religious liking — a fact several of Arizona’s legislators continue to deny.
Republican state Representative Nancy McLain told the Arizona Republic a few months ago — when legislators were considering a bill to dismantle the Marshal’s Office — that it’s not much to worry about up there.

“Things have been changing in Colorado City,” she’s quoted as saying.
Well, this has only been going on for, oh, “at least 20 years,” according to the feds’ complaint.
“The Cities’ governments, including the Marshal’s Office, have been deployed to carry out the will and dictates of FLDS leaders, particularly Warren Jeffs and the official to whom he delegates authority,” the lawsuit says.
The towns’ attorney told the Associated Press, “DOJ asked us to dismantle a community.”
