A man who stole a pipe from a Mesa smoke shop slammed his car into a manager who had tried to stop him, police say.

The incident began on Saturday just before 3 p.m. when the man, who wasn’t identified immediately by police, walked out of DJ’s Smoke Shop, 2034 West Southern Avenue, with the pipe, according to a police write-up. The manager chased him out, but the thief threw her to the ground, “causing injury,” police say. When the manager walked behind the suspect’s vehicle to get his license plate, he ran into her.

Police soon tracked the guy down and arrested him near his apartment after a foot chase.
