Super Bowl 49 will be played at University of Phoenix Stadium here in 2015, the National Football League decided today.
It will be the third time the Valley of the Sun has hosted the big game. U of P Stadium hosted the Super Bowl in 2008, when the New York Giants staged an improbable win against the New England Patriots. And Sun Devil Stadium at Arizona State University hosted the contest in 1996, when the Dallas Cowboys beat the Pittsburgh Steelers,
Phoenix overcame a strong pitch by the Tampa area, but NFL owners decided on the Valley. The Florida location along the Gulf Coast hosted the game in 1984, 1991, 2001, and 2009.
