Lowell Elementary School in Phoenix has been close by health officials until May 26 because of an outbreak of “influenza like illness.”
Swine flu could be the cause, but no tests are planned. The virus, officials have decided, has a weak punch. Still, “as a precaution,” Lowell is being closed until after Memorial Day to stop the bug from spreading, states Bob England, director of the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, in a news release today.
Officials decided two weeks ago to stop closing schools with each new case of swine flu. England says in the county’s statement that he’s said all along he would look at the problem on a “case-by-case basis.”
