Two Arizona cities (that happen to be home to a large number of Arizona State University students) are ranked in the top 10 when it comes to rudest cities in the English-speaking world.

According to a study conducted by the Foursquare social network, Tempe ranks No. 6 when it comes to rudeness, with Scottsdale trailing in the No. 7 spot.

If you’re unfamiliar with Foursquare, below is how it’s explained by the Interwebs,

Foursquare is a location-based social networking website, software for mobile devices. This service is available to users with GPS-enabled mobile devices, such as iPhones, Android mobile phones, Symbian devices and Blackberries. Users “check-in” at venues using a mobile website, text messaging or a device-specific application by running the application and selecting from a list of venues that the application locates nearby.[2] Each check-in awards the user points and sometimes “badges.”

The “rudeness” of a city is essentially based on the percentage of profanities found in “check-in recommendations” posted from each city to the location-based social network.

Other notably rude cities include Manchester, England (famous for its soccer hooliganism), which topped the list. It was followed by El Paso, Texas; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Bloomington, Indiana; and Riverside, California.

It may come as a shocker, but only one borough of New York City, Staten Island, made the top 20.
