For anyone unfamiliar with the physics of electricity and metal, swinging steel rods through the air during a storm is a great way to get yourself zapped by lightning. That, it seems, was the case for a Tucson man who died yesterday after he was struck by lightning while playing golf over the weekend.

Francisco Juarez, 53, was playing golf on Saturday at Fred Enke Golf Course in Tucson when he was struck.

Yesterday, Juarez died at University Medical Center in Tucson, police said today.

Juarez apparently wasn’t the only person on the bolt’s list that day — another man standing about 50 feet away was also injured when the lightning struck. That man was treated and released from the hospital over the weekend.
