Tucson’s Arizona Daily Star has become the latest newspaper to charge readers for access to stories on its website.
The paper unveiled its “metered access” plan this week, along with a $13-a-month price-tag for online news only.
The Arizona Republic, which operates a similar paywall, charges $9.99 a month for unlimited access to stories.
In a video explanation on the Star’s site, editor Bobbie Jo Buel says people will be able to read 10 free articles a month without paying.

Subscribers to the physical product have online access included in their subscription price.
The website has also changed from azstarnet.com to tucson.com.
If it’s anything like the Arizona Republic’s paywall, it will be easy to avoid. For example, using a browser’s “porn mode” will give you unlimited access to the Republic online.
