Local artist Effie Bouras doesn’t care if you smile when you see her work — in fact, it’s perfectly acceptable if you leave her latest solo show at Practical Art feeling a little sad.
That’s because the new exhibition has a theme of abandonment. In her paper graphite works, you’ll see deserted buildings and lonely figures, which Bouras hopes inspires viewers to think about the disconnect they may feel in their own lives. “I want people to reflect,” Bouras says. “It’s not fashionable to say that, as presumably we all like to imagine we are deep thinkers on some level or the other. But sometimes, I think we have lost this art.”
