Boys like guns and robots. Girls prefer E-Z Bake Ovens and Barbie dolls. Right? Guess Sarah Palin and the Queer Eye boys missed that memo. Ceramicists Rebekah Bogard, Cynthia Consentino, Jason Huff, and Max Lehman examine sexuality, femininity, and gender issues via whimsical cartoon sculptures in “The Trouble With Boys and Girls” exhibit.
Despite their cute appearances, these pastel-colored, animated sculptures are definitely not for kiddies. For example, Consentino’s sculptural self-portrait features an adorable brunette with a sassy bowl cut and frilly pink dress reminiscent of our childhood icons – that is, if Little Lulu or Dora the Explorer toted an AK-47 and blew all the other little dolls away.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: April 8. Continues through May 24, 2009
