Phoenix may be known for bands of the Jimmy Eat World persuasion, but for each of those, there is a Vehemence. It’s true — the Arizona metal scene is alive and well. In an attempt to start another downtown tradition, a local production company, SMUT, has dubbed the night after the arty First Friday as Metal Saturday. On the first Saturday of each month, the local metal elite will descend upon the Old Brickhouse and shake the venue with guitar solos, throaty growls and triggered drums. This Saturday’s installment brings melodic death metalers Red Tear Memory, a band that features members of the now-defunct When Heaven Bleeds. Other bands set to play future Metal Saturdays include: Morbid Angel-influenced Motive, porn metal troublemakers Eroticide, and Hellven. The shows are all ages, and the cover is cheap (between $5 and $8 depending on the lineup).
