Shepard Fairey’s stuck on Tempe. Not the street artist himself, but rather his large-scale iconic wheat pastes, which have recently (and mysteriously) appeared on walls around the Arizona State University campus.
The instantly recognizable works of Fairey — whose infamous images helped propel Barack Obama to the White House and established that Andre the Giant indeed has a posse — and his OBEY brand will be a part of the Sticker Phiends IV exhibit, on display this month at Cartel Coffee Lab, 225 West University Drive in Tempe.
Organized by local creative Mike Neely (a.k.a. Mad One), the annual exhibition will feature the works of more than 20 different street artists, graphic designers, and sticker makers. Touted as “a celebration of adhesive art,” the lineup boasts the likes of ABCNT, Cryptik, 123 Klan, Clown Soldier, and Pez One.
Fans of the funky can score art stickers and free drinks during the showcase’s opening reception at 8 p.m. Friday, April 8, while listening to phat beats from local DJs Sweaty Hot Junk and One Son.
