The music of the Gin Blossoms has always been sugary. Even at their darkest – for example, the suicide jam “Follow You Down” from their sophomore album Congratulations, I’m Sorry — the legendary local band has always managed to hide mournful lyrics under a thick layer of jangle-pop sweetness.

You could call it a natural pairing, then, that the Blossoms are teaming up with Cold Stone Creamery for the Scoops of Love fundraiser on Thursday, June 2. Following a free concert outside the Cold Stone location at Kierland Commons, 15034 North Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale, Robin Wilson and his band mates will serve ice cream inside, with half of the proceeds benefiting Bowe Special Care Nursery. No word yet on whether or not the Blossoms will bust out with one of Cold Stone’s trademark jingles while dishing up the sweet stuff.

A custom Fender guitar will also be auctioned off during the event, which starts at 6 p.m. Call 480-951-8533 for info.
