It’s hard to be incognito when you’re a performer. That’s why it’s better to be a visual artist — you can spy on people talking about your work without them even knowing.
Local artist Sue Chenoweth gets a kick out of hearing guests speculate about her whimsical, childlike paintings. “People get shocked sometimes when they meet me because they don’t picture a middle-age woman making art like I do,” says Chenoweth. “They have a preconceived view of me in their head . . . like how so many people have a preconceived idea about how art should be.”
Meet Chenoweth and other artists at Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art’s Summer Opening Celebration. In addition to Chenoweth’s work, Western-themed pieces from the museum’s permanent collection and an installation by local architecture firm Atherton|Keener will be on display.
