An endless summer might be perfect for sun-bleached surfers dreaming of the perfect wave, but by now, you’ve watched your electric bill skyrocket and have cooked your hand repeatedly on your steering wheel. You are so ready for this season to move on.
The Trunk Space is, too, so on Friday, August 21, the DIY venue hosts the Goodbye Summer Fest, featuring some awesome jams that should distract you from the hot for at least a few hours. The bill includes Santa Barbara-based Watercolor Paintings, which showcases Rebecca Redman’s upbeat, folksy pop ditties that perfectly complement the airy backing of harp and ukelele. Also scheduled is San Diego’s Red Pony Clock, which matches the quirkily melancholic lyrics of primary songwriter Gabe Saucedo with the musical backing equivalent of a high school band gone wild, resulting in punchy songs that could be an alternate soundtrack to most Charlie Brown specials. And finally, Tempe-to-Seattle expats iji should expertly serve up surf-tinged pop grooves while Denton, Texas’ Fishboy performs its energetic garage rock.
Locals Haunted Cologne and Mike Montoya share the stage, and free Otter Pops will be provided to celebrate summer’s end.
