Feminists knitting in their dorm rooms. People buying handmade. Folks making stuff out of garbage. (Words fail us. Did you know there are Houston taggers who knit their graffiti?)
We totally saw DIY coming, and so did Milwaukee’s Faythe Levine, who explored the indie crafting and art community for her documentary Handmade Nation (and played the musical saw herself on the soundtrack, natch). A YouTube clip generated a book deal, glowing reviews, and fierce buzz for the film. The screening will include Levine in attendance, signing books.
Tickets, which cost $10, are available at Stinkweeds Music and Frances Vintage, 10 and 12 West Camelback Road, and MADE art boutique, 922 North Fifth Street.
