Yellowcard had their first taste of mainstream success with “Ocean Avenue,” the upbeat title track from their fourth album. That track was a hit in 2003, back when The O.C. was must-see TV and teenagers were obsessed with all things related to Southern California, which seems like a long time ago, indeed. Actually, though, the quintet started as a Jacksonville, Florida, hardcore band. After a few lineup changes and a move to the West Coast, Yellowcard evolved into a violin-based pop-punk outfit. Ocean Avenue‘s successor, Lights and Sounds, showcased the band’s growth by taking an alternative rock approach to the negative aspects of Los Angeles. After releasing two follow-ups to Ocean Avenue, the band went on a two-year hiatus. Their sixth studio album, When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes, was released on March 22.
